听力原文: I want to talk a little bit today about the revolution in American education. We must leave no child behind. We are not satisfied with a society that graduates citizens who cannot read, write or do basic math. Nor are we satisfied to turn out young men and women unprepared to enter fine institutions of higher learning such as this—unprepared to compete in the global economy—unprepared, really, for life itself. Our revolution in education will take an evolution in awareness and thought. We can do it!

第1题

听力原文: I want to talk today about some studies. They seem to indicate that there is a startling world-wide decline in the number of amphibians, such as flogs, toads and salamanders. There's little doubt that one reason why the number of amphibians is declining is their habitats have been destroyed when the developers fill in ponds and marshes to build houses. Amphibians can't just move somewhere. They need water to lay their eggs in. Another problem is the growing fish industry. Another range of popular pool fish such as carp have been introduced to many lakes and ponds all over the world. Raising and selling these fish can be profitable, but the fish eat the eggs and offspring of amphibians that were already living in the lakes and ponds. Other factors could be contributing to the decline include acid rain and the spread of pesticide residues. Many pesticides that farmers added to their crops are eventually washed away bythe rain and end upin pondsand other bodies of water where amphibians live. Amphibians are especially vulnerable to pesticides dissolved in the water because of their moist skins. Water can pass through amphibians allowing toxins dissolved in the water to enter the amphibians'body.

What does the speaker mainly discuss?

A.The distribution of different species of amphibians.

B.Possible reasons for reduction in the number of amphibians.

C.The effects of environmental change on the fish industry.

D.Guidelines for the responsible use of pesticides.

听力原文:Woman: Today, I want to tell you about the Good Food Show at the Capital Exhibition Centre. There are more than 300 stands at the exhibition. I really enjoyed my visit.

First I looked at the books on sale. Jane Adams, the famous television

cook, was there signing copies of her latest book. It's about making cakes so I had to have itl My family loves sweet things and I really liked her last book about making bread. There's a different famous cook there every day signing books and talking to people.

In fact, there's advice on all sorts of topics. I listened to someone from the central market talking about what you should look for when you buy fish. I've always been nervous about buying it, because how can you tell if it's really fresh? Well, I think I've got a better idea now.

Then, in the exhibition theatre, I saw a cook prepare a healthy but tasty lunch using only vegetables! They will prepare a different dish every day. Also in the theatre, at 2 o'clock every day, a cook talks about preparing delicious desserts in under 15 minutes. I tasted one made with chocolate and it was out of this world!

At the show, you can try food from all around the world, from Chile to China, and I did! I enjoyed the food from Canada most of all, although everything I tasted was really good.

The exhibition centre is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Monday to Saturday and from 10 until 6 on Sundays. But hurry, because the last day is the 23rd of March when the Good Food Show has to make way for the Boat Show. For more details, phone ...

听力原文: Today I'd like to talk to you about group discussions known as "seminars" and "tutorials". I want, first of all, to deal with the meaning of these terms, then I want to cover the aims of group discussions; next I'll go on with some problems that English learners are likely to-face; and finally I'd like to offer a few pieces of advice.

Firstly, let's look at the meaning of the terms "seminar" and "tutorial". Nowadays it's difficult to draw a precise distinction between the meanings of the two words. The differences are firstly the size of the group and secondly their purposes. A tutorial is usually for a small number of students, say, between two and five, whereas a seminar is attended by a larger group, say, between ten and fifteen. In a tutorial, a tutor adopts the role of the expert and asks and answers questions related to his most recent lectures. Often a student has to submit an essay or a report which is discussed by the tutor and then by other members of the tutorial group. In short, the tutor takes the lead; he in fact "tutored". The purpose of the seminar, however, is to provide an opportunity to discuss a previously arranged topic. More than one member of the staff might be present and one of them would probably act as chairman. Often one student gives a short talk served as an introduction to the discussion. The other students may have been asked to read a number of chapters of a book, related to the talk, so as, to be well-prepared to participate in the discussion.

(26)

A.A student.

B.A lecturer.

C.A group leader.

D.The chairman.

听力原文:Today I'd like to talk to you about group discussions which, in an academic context, are usually known as "seminars" and "tutorials". I want first of all to deal with the meanings of these terms; then I want to cover the aims of the group discussions; next I'll go on to look at some problems that learners of English are likely to experience in work of this kind; and finally I'd like to offer a few pieces of advice.

First, then let's look at the meanings of the terms "seminar" and "tutorial". Nowadays it's becoming more and more difficult to draw a precise distinction between the meanings of the two words that all lecturers would be willing to accept. The traditional differences which are still accepted by many lecturers are firstly the size of the group and secondly, and perhaps more importantly, their purpose.

A tutorial was usually for a small number of students, say, between two and five, whereas a seminar was attended by a large group, say, between ten and fifteen. In a tutorial, a lecturer or tutor adopted the role of the expert and asked and answered questions related to his most recent lecture. In short, the tutor took the lead; he in fact "tutored".

The purpose of the seminar, on the other hand, was to provide an opportunity to discuss a previously arranged topic. Often one student presented a paper; that is, gave a short talk which served as an introduction to a more general discussion. The other students may have been asked to read a number of chapters of a book, related to the talk, so as to be in a better position to participate in the discussion.

(29)

A.A librarian.

B.A monitor.

C.A Chairman.

D.A lecturer.

听力原文: In this lesson, I want to talk about the history of The White House. At first, most Americans didn't think there was anything particularly special about the White House. Few had ever seen it or had any idea what it looked like, and even the families who lived there found it completely inadequate. When it was built, the White House was the largest house in the country and it remained so until after the Civil War. But it served so many different purposes that little of it was available for the First Family to actually live in. The first floor, or "State Floor" was made up entirely of public rooms; and the president's offices, which where staffed by as many as 30 employees, took half of the second floor up. The First Family had to get by with the eight or fewer second-floor rooms that were left. By Lincoln's time, the situation was intolerable. The White House was open to visitors; office seekers, and the merely curious had no difficulty making their way upstairs from the official rooms on the first floor. Lincoln was so uncomfortable with the situation that he had a private corridor constructed. He also received a $ 20, 000 appropriation to improve the furnishings of the White House. The new furnishings did not last for more than a few years. When Lincoln was assassinated in 1865, the White House fell into disarray. No one really supervised the White House during' the first five weeks.

听力原文: Last time we outlined how the Civil War finally got started. I want to talk today about the political management of the war on both sides, the north under Abraham Lincoln, and the south under Jefferson Davis. An important task for both of these presidents was to justify for their citizens just why the war was necessary. In 1861, on July 4th, Lincoln gave his first major speech in which he presented the northern reasons for the war. It was, he said, to preserve democracy. Lincoln suggested that this war was a noble crusade that would determine the future of democracy throughout the world. For him, the issue was whether or not this government of the people, by the people could maintain its integrity, could it remain complete and survive its domestic foes? In other words, could a few discontented individuals and by that he meant those who led the southern rebellion, could they arbitrarily break up the government and put an end to free government on earth? The only way for the nation to survive was to crush the rebellion. At the time, he was hopeful that the war wouldn't last long, and the slave owners would be put down forever. But he underestimated how difficult the war would be. It would be harder than any the Americans had thought before or since, largely because the north had to break the will of the southern people, not just its army. But Lincoln rallied northerners to a deep cemmitment to the cause. They came to perceive the war as a kind of democratic crusade against southern society.

(30)

A.Advantages of the North in the Civil War.

B.Civilian opposition to the Civil War.

C.Reasons to justify fighting the Civil War.

D.Military strategy used in the Civil War.
