听力原文:W: Right, well, in the studio this morning, for our interview spot is Peter Wilson. Peter works for Green Peace. So, Peter, welcome.

M: Thanks a lot. It's good to be here.

W: Great! Now, Peter, perhaps you can tell us something about Green Peace and yore" job there.

M: Sure. Well, I'll start by telling you roughly what Green Peace is all about. I actually work in London for the Green Peace organization. We've been going for a few decades and we're a non- violent, non-political organization. We're involved in anti-nuclear activity, conservation and protection of animals and protection and support of our eco-system. I'm the action organizer and arrange any protests.

W: Great! A pretty important role, Peter. What sort of protest would you organize?

M: Well, recently we've been involved in anti-nuclear campaigns. I've personally arranged for the demonstration against radioactive waste dumping in the Atlantic Ocean. We've got a few small Green Peace boats that we harass the dumping ship with.

W: Hey? Hold on, Peter. I thought you said your organization was non-violent. What do you mean by "harass"?

M: Well, we circle round and round the ships and get in the way when they try to dump the drums of nuclear waste in the sea. We talk to the men and try to change, you know, yell at them to stop. We generally make ourselves as much of a nuisance possible.

W: Well, people may think differently of your methods but there's no doubt you're doing a great job. Keep it up and good luck. And thanks for talking with us.

M: Thanks for having me.

Q. 11. What is the man's chief responsibility in the Green Peace organization?

Q. 12.What has Green Peace been involved in recently?

听力原文:W: And what about you, John? Any thoughts on next year?

M: Not really. It looks like unemployment, though. I'm getting rather depressed about it.

W: Well, don't give up on other things yet. It might be better for you to stay on at school, you know. I know the job market is very difficult at the moment. If you stay on at school, you could built up some extra qualifications which may help you later. You know, when the job market is very difficult, it's always useful to have those extra qualifications. You could always repeat subjects where you've got a low grade. Or you might find some other subjects which interest you.

M: Couldn't I go to an adult education college?

W: Umm. That's also a possibility. The range of the subjects there is much wider than at school. You might find more things there to interest you. On the other hand it's a completely new start--you know, getting to know teacher and their methods, making new friends and so on. It could be better or it could be worse! It depends very much on how you feel...

M: Yeah, I see what you mean. Ok, and what are these Youth Training Schemes everyone's talking about?

W: Well, they are training courses which are very practical. They're run by the government and you can find them in many different places. They also cover many different types of training. You even get paid for something while you're doing them.

M: But it doesn't guarantee me a job, right?

W: No, that's true. But it may help.

M: Ok. So, school, adult education college and the Youth Training Scheme. Hmm, can I see some more details?

W: Yes, of course. Here are some leaflets. Why don't you look at them and come back when you've thought about it?

Q. 11. What can we learn about the man from the beginning of the conversation?

Q. 12.What is the advantage of going to adult education college according to the woman?

听力原文:M: Hey! How was your trip?

W: Wonderful! I spent most of the time at the museum. I especially liked the new wing. I was amazed to hear the guide explain all the problems they had while building it.

M: Right. I just read an article that went on and on about the cost. Ninety million total, I think.

W: Yeah, the guide mentioned that. You could see they spared no expense.

M: Huh. It looked really unusual, at least from what I saw in the picture.

W: It is. The basic design is two triangles. In fact, there are triangles all over: the paving stones in the courtyard, the skylights, and even a lot of the sculptures. One sculpture is a mobile. It is in the courtyard, and it's made of pieces of aluminum that move slowly in the air. Really impressive.

M: That was in the article, too. It is said the original was steel and it weight so much that it wasn't safe to hang.

W: Right. They did it over in aluminum so it wouldn't come crashing down on someone's head.

M: You know the article went into that in detail. There was even an interview with the sculptor.

W: I'd like to read that. Would you mind if I borrow the magazine sometime?

M: No, I wouldn't mind, if I haven't thrown it out yet.

Q. 11. What did the woman think of the new wing of the museum?

Q. 12.How did the man learn about the museum?

Q. 13.According to the woman, what did the paving stones, skylights and mobile have in common?

Q. 14.What was the problem with the original mobile?

(31)

A.She was impressed by it.

B.It was a waste of money.

C.She was amazed it had opened so soon.

听力原文:W: Good afternoon, Professor Miller. Some young parents called our program complaining about the day cares. As an expert, how do you view this?

M: Well, working parents often put their kids in day care. While most parents we interviewed say they are satisfied with the day care they use, we still believe that only about 12% of children receive high quality care. Many parents really don't know how good their day care service is.

W: In this case, can you give the working parents some suggestions on choosing a good day care?

M: Sure. When choosing a day care center, of course parents want to know how much it costs. But there are many other questions parents should ask and observations they should make. Parents need to know if the caregiver is loving and responds to the children's needs. Does the caregiver hug the child, talk to the child, smile at the child and play with the child?

W: Yes, we all realize these are important. What else do you take into consideration?

M: It is also important to know if the day care center is clean and safe. A parent should find out how the caregiver takes care of sick children. Is there a nurse or doctor available to help with medical care? Do caregivers know first aid?

W: Oh, yes, when children get sick, these are necessary.

M: Sure. Parents should ask how many caregivers there are per child. One caregiver for a group of eight four-or-five-year-olds may be enough, but babies need much more attention; one caregiver for three babies is recommended.

W: When do you think parents should put their babies in child care?

M: Yeah, it's a good question. We believe that parents should not put their babies in child care for the first four months.

W: Why is it?

M: During this time. it is important for babies to form. an attachment to their mothers. You know, a 30-year study we carry out shows that baby's early experiences influence his emotional development and learning abilities for the rest of his life. It is a well known fact that talking to infants increases their language ability and that reading to them is the most important thing parents can do to raise a good reader. However, if a baby is put in a day care at too young an age, where caregivers rarely talk to it or hold it as its parents do, it develops a brain which is 20% to 50% percent smaller than normal.

W: Thank you. professor. So if you are a parent who is going to put your baby in a day care center, please do contemplate on your decision and be very careful when you are choosing a place for your baby. That's the end of today's "tips from experts". Thanks for watching.

Questions:

11.According to the man, what's most parents' attitude towards the day care they use?

12.What is the thing that parents don't need to know when they are choosing a good day care center?

13.Why shouldn't parent put their babies in child care for the first four months?

14.Which is not true according to the passage?

(31)

A.They complain a lot.

B.They're satisfied.

C.They don't care.

D.They are not satisfied.

听力原文:M: Hi, Ann, welcome back. How's your trip to the states?

W: Very busy. I had a lot of meetings. So, of course, I didn't have much time to see New York.

M: What a pity. Actually I have a trip there myself next week.

W: Do you? Then take my advice. Do the well-being in the air program. It really works.

M: Oh, I read about that in a magazine. You say it works?

W: Yes. I did the program on the flight to the States. And when I arrived in New York, I didn't have any problem. No jet leg at all. On the way back I didn't do it, and I felt terrible.

M: You are joking.

W: Not at all. It really made a lot of difference.

M: Hmm... So, what did you do?

W: Well, I didn't drink any alcohol or coffee and I didn't eat any meat or rich food. I drink a lot of water and fruit juice and I eat the meals on the well-being menu. They are lighter. They have fish, vegetables and noodles, for example. And I did some of the exercises in the program.

M: Exercises? On a plane?

W: Yes. I didn't do many, of course. There isn't much space on the plane.

M: How many passengers did the exercises?

W: Not many.

M: And how much champagne did they drink?

W: A lot. It was more popular than mineral water.

M: So, basically it's a choice. Mineral water and exercises or champagne and jet lag.

W: That's right. It's a difficult choice.

Q. 11. Why did the woman go to New York?

Q. 12.What does the woman say about the well-being in the air program?

Q. 13.What did the woman do to follow the well-being menu?

Q. 14.What did the woman say about other passengers?

听力原文:W: Hi, Stan, where have you been?

M: Oh, just at the Student Union office trying to see if I can catch you there. I also tried to find out if professor Steinfield has any old exams from years ago.

W: Why don't you just ask me? I took that class last semester and aced it.

M: Yeah... you ace all your subjects. But the exams change from year to year, don't they?

W: True, but the style. is pretty much the same from year to year.

M: So tell me about the process of prostaglandin. I can barely even pronounce it, let alone explain it.

W: Hey, I am no expert but what she'll be mainly looking for is that you know how it affects the digestion, reproduction, and immune systems.

M: What kind of question might she ask?

W: Well, for example, you'll probably have to say how prostaglandin, if over-produced, can give you headaches and fevers and stuff.

M: Talk about headaches. I think I 'm getting one now. Can you give me an aspirin? Well, I am sure it's this Biology class that's doing it.

W: Hey, I've heard you are no slouch at poetry. You get me through my course in 19th century poetry and I'll make you an expert in Biology.
