Questions 31 to 35 are based on the following passage:

When I was studying at Yale, some phenomena puzzled me greatly. I found that Chinese students or Asian students were very polite in class while American students often interrupted the professor, asking questions and dominating the discussion. The Chinese students were not as aggressive as American students.

I was impressed by the role of the professor in the seminar(讨论会). The professor didn’t act as an authority, giving final conclusions, but as a reseac her looking for answers to questions together with the students. One lingui stic(语言的) feature of his interacting with his students was that he used many modal(情态的) verbs—far more than I did in Beiwai. When answering questions, he usually said, “This is my personal opinion and it could be wrong.” or “You could be right, but you might find this point of view also interesting.”

In China, authorities are always supposed to give wise decisions and correct di rections. Therefore, students always expect the professor to give an answer to th e question. I still remember how frustrated they were when foreign teachers did not provide such an answer. Their expectations from authorities are much higher than that of American students. Once the Chinese students got the answer, they w ere sure about it.

Education in China is valued for united thinking. I remember American teachers who taught in our university complaining about the fact that Chinese students u niformly expressed the same idea in their English composition. The examinations in America usually do not test a student’s ability to memorize the material but his ability to analyze and solve problems. Education in America is valued not on ly as a means to obtain employment but as a process of enhancing critical thinking.

Though Chinese people may want to get to know Americans, they often feel awkward talking t
o Americans. The language barrier is an obvious problem. However, there are other problems. Many Chinese are hesitant to speak with people that they do not know well or types of people who are outside their previous experiences. Besides, Chinese people often do not know what to talk to Americans about or how to keep the conversation moving.

If you want to get to know Americans, one important piece of advice is this: make the first move yourself. In the United States, it is common and acceptable to start conversations, even with strangers or casual acquaintances. Don' t wait around for an American to talk to you. Start a conversation yourself. Ask questions. Show that you are interested in getting to know them. Of course, not every conversation will result in a friendship, but if you don't start conversations, you will have much less chance of making friends.

If someone seems friendly but you have only exchanged greet/rigs, try starting a conversation. There are a number of possible subjects for casual conversation. Americans talk about their work if they are employed, their classes and majors if they are students, their families, their hobbies and leisure time activities, sports, cur- rent events, and the weather, among other topics. If you are talking to a stranger, you can ask, "What kind of work do you do?" or "Where do you work?" If you know that the other person is a student, you can ask, "What classes are you taking?" and "What is your major?" You should also be prepared to answer questions like these in a conversation. Also, many Americans are interested in China, so you should be able to talk about China and Chinese culture in English.

When you ask questions in a conversation, don't skip around from one topic to another. Follow up one question with a related one. You might ask an American, "Do you have any children?" If the American says, "Yes," don't follow up with a question about work. Ask another question about the children, such as how many children there are or how old they are.

Which of the following is the reason why Chinese people feel awkward talking to Americans?

A.They don't like to talk to strangers.

B.They don't know enough about some topics.

C.They often speak English with a strong accent.

D.They don't talk to them in an appropriate manner.

Top officials from the Ministry of Education announced last week that they will make a sta
ndard plan to calculate the education costs of university students.

Aimed at stopping colleges from overcharging students, the plan has been welcome by the public and the press.

"The late announcement should be congratulated," said an opinion from newspapers. "In the past, university students' education costs have always been an enigma(迷)."

"It is known that many universities are overstaffed, which brought about lots of administrative spending."

"It is obviously unreasonable to include such outlays(costs) into students' education costs. Also, most of the universities are excessively keen on campus expansion, even beyond their economic capability."

"According to a blue paper presented by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, China's institutes of higher learning have so far borrowed a total of 150 to 200 billion yuan in loans front banks."

"Will such an large sum of debt be taken for students' education expenses?"

"Even if education costs are accurately calculated, another problem emerges: How to share them between government and individuals?"

"According to Yuan Guiren, vice-minister of education, the proportion (比例) shouldered by an individual student should be kept within 25 per cent."

"However, the sharp increase of tuition fees over the past two years, indicates the proportion has not been strictly implemented. It is estimated that university students' pay are half of their education costs."

Which of the following is the best title for this article?

A.The Problems of Chinese Universities.

B.Chinese Students Pay for Universities' Expansion.

C.A Standard Plan.

D.How to Share Between Government and Individuals.

根据短文的内容,回答下列题目

Life at Aichi University

I&39;m Yamamoto Mika, a 22-year old Japanese girl. I&39;d like to invite you to Aichi University so you can understand my life.

Our university has a close relationship with China and my department is the only one of its kind in Japan. My courses include the Chinese language, modem Chinese politics and economics. I love the Chinese culture and I have been to Tianjin as an exchange student.

In Japan, our courses are divided into compulsory, optional and specialized courses. However,we have a flexible schedule. We can choose classes from a wide range of options.

Many students finish the compulsory courses in three years so that they can have one year without any classes. They often use this period of time to study abroad, conduct research and travel.

Many students even suspend their study for additional study-abroad opportunities.

Japanese universities encourage students to choose their own ways of study, so it is quiet easy for us to apply for study suspension.

Japanese students participate in various kinds of extracurricular activities. They attend clubs from elementary schools, so many have already been accustomed to clubs when they enter university.

Our university now has 42 art clubs and 45 sports clubs. The annual University Festival is the grandest carnival of Japanese universities. In the festival, students promote their clubs and organize various activities. Our university&39;s festival attracted about 150,000 people last year. I really like this festival.

In school, I participate in the journalism club. When we have the club promotion, we cook "tonnjiru", a kind of pork soup, and sell it to other students at the fair.

We also go to different places to interview celebrities who attend our festival as guests. It is a wonderful experience to talk to those stars face to face.

Japanese students like to hold parties. We have two kinds of parties. One is the Mochiyori party. If you want to attend this party you have to cook a course and take it to the party. The organizer buys drinks and snacks.

Another kind of party is the Nomikai, which mainly involves alcohol. We drink something called chu-hai, which is a combination of soda and wine. We also drink Japanese sake and beer.

There are parties for many occasions, like welcoming new students, graduation, celebrating victories, birthday parties or just for promoting friendship.

Which statement is NOT true ofYamamoto Mika? 查看材料

A.She is a Japanese student

B.She has never been to China

C.She loves the Chinese culture

第10题

It was when I was attending high school that I first read Asimov' s stories. At the time,
a few SF magazines began to introduce this author and translate a few pieces from his "Robot Series". Of Asimov' s works, the one that left the deepest impression on me was Pebble in the Sky. This novel directly influenced my early SF writing.

Asimov was one of the leading writers of Western science fiction's Golden Age, so although his writing may not have a direct influence on writers of today, his underlying (潜在的) influence on many levels is undeniable — the famous Three Laws of Robotics, and many classic writing techniques, for example. Of course, his influence is related to the atmosphere that existed in the Golden Age; a science fiction writer today has a hard time reaching that level no matter how outstanding he or she is. Asimov's novels are marked by a fully integrated logical system, and his stories are a pleasure to read — this is the reason his novels still attract readers today. Naturally, Western science fiction has few people these days who follow Asimov' s creative methods; instead they are closely connected to mainstream artistic trends, employing large amounts of postmodern techniques. This type of science fiction has a hard time blossoming on Chinese soil. The majority of Chinese SF readers would rather read the classic works of Asimov. This is an important question that faces today' s Chinese science fiction writers.

Compared with the "Robot Series", Asimov's "Foundation Series" is a little less well-known in China. This is mostly due to the large influence of the Three Laws, and moreover, the Founda-tion novels have never been completely introduced here. In fact, the Foundation series creates an entire world, even grander than that of the "Robot Series"; this science fiction epic(史诗) had a direct influence on later Western science fiction, the most famous example being Star Wars.

We can know from the passage that the author is a______.

A.science fiction writer

B.science fiction publisher

C.high school student

D.novel translator
