听力原文: For a long time, Albert Worboys had a reputation as a miser in his village. Yesterday, when his will was announced people found they had completely wronged him.

Mr. Worboys was a farmer who had a very big farm. Apart from this, he also owned a building business, and made money on the stock market. Every year, hundreds of dollars streamed into his purse. Yet, he was known by other residents as the meanest man in the village. A fellow villager, who had known him for more than fifty years, said, "He never spent money on himself. He never bought a new suit and he even mended his shoes with sticky tape rather than buy a new pair." A woman villager added, "He got the greatest pleasure from doing his account books. He worked on them for hours. We thought he was planning to take his money with him."

Mr. Worboys died in October at the age of 85, and yesterday his will became known. He left $175,000 for building houses for his former employees, $3,000 for a new village bus shelter. The rest of his estate, more than $200,000, went to charity.

(33)

A.Because he never lent any money to his fellow villagers.

听力原文:M: Hi, Kate. Mind if I join you?

W: No, not at all, have a seat, Jack.

M: Do you have any plans for the weekend?

W: Yeah, I'm really excited. I'm going to New York for a couple of days.

M: That's a coincidence. My roommate is going there too. Are you driving? Maybe you two could ride together.

W: No, I'm going to take a train. I've already got my ticket.

M: So what are you going to do in New York?

W: I'm visiting a friend I met last summer at the last music camp. Remember I went to a music camp in Vermont? I shared a camp with Laura and she's just moved to Manhattan. So I'm going to see her new place.

M: You two probably have a lot to talk about. Didn't you tell me you were from New York?

W: No, I'm from California. I've never been to New York before, I'll give you three guesses what we are going to do Saturday night.

M: Something to do with music, I bet.

W: Right, we are going to hear a first-rate concert at the Lincoln Center.

M: Wow, I wish I were going with you.

听力原文: The global spread of English over the last 40 years is remarkable. It is unprecedented in several ways: by the increasing number of users of the language; by its depth of penetration into societies; by its range of functions.

Worldwide over 1.4 billion people live in countries where English has official status. One out of five of the world's population speaks English with some degree of competence. Over 70% of the world's scientists read English. About 85% of the world's mail is written in English. By the year 2010, the number of people who speak English as a second or foreign language will outnumber native speakers.

English is used for more purposes than ever before. Vocabularies, grammatical forms, and ways of speaking and writing have shown influence from technological and scientific developments, economics and management, literature and entertainment genres. There is no reason to believe that any other language will appear within the next 50 years to replace English.

English has become an international language. However, this does not mean that English is replacing or will replace other languages as many fear. Instead, it may supplement or co-exist with other languages by allowing strangers to communicate across linguistic boundaries. It will become a tool that opens windows to the world, unlocks doors to opportunities, and expands our minds to new ideas.

(26)

A.1.4 billion.

B.One fifth of the world's population.

C.70 percent of the world's population.

D.50 million.

第10题

听力原文:In early American history, a hero was a man who was wise, brave and able to save

听力原文: In early American history, a hero was a man who was wise, brave and able to save his country from trouble. George Washington was a great American hero. He fought courageously in the Revolutionary War and won independence from Great Britain for the United States. His wisdom and leadership were largely responsible for the organization of the government and for the development of the country.

The modern American hero must be daring and independent as he solves problems. His problems may or may not be national ones. Most of the time they are problems that involve principles like religious freedom or civil fights. For example, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a modem hero, tried to achieve equal rights for the American black people. He gave his life for the principle of human equality.

However, most American heroes are those who axe less concerned with national crises than they are with simple, everyday problems in life. American heroism can be seen in those who rush into burning buildings to save books and manuscripts; who run into paths of automobiles to save the life of a stranger; who work very hard to do credit to their family or faith through sports, music or volunteer services.

In brief, anyone in America can become a hero, and everyone should try to behave like a hero.

(23)

A.American heroes in history.

B.The importance of American heroes.

C.Modern American heroes.

D.American heroism.
